The tankard was presented in 1988 by Donald C Enderby and was first played for in 1989. The event was originally held over 54-holes on Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, for the first five years. Royal Sydney Golf Club Members were invited to compete from 1989 to 1991. In 1994 the format was changed to an 18-hole event to be played on Easter Saturday each year.
