The Australian Senior Medal was first held in 2009 as an open Senior Order of Merit event. In 2010, the event became part of the NSW Senior Classic, a two-day event held in conjunction with the New South Wales Golf Club Senior Medal. In 2011, The Lakes Golf Club Senior Medal took the place of the NSWGC event. In 2013, The Avondale Golf Club Senior Medal was included as part of the NSW Senior Classic to create a three-day, 54-hole National Senior Order of Merit ranking event.
