In 2008 – after 10 years of competition it was decided by the Committee to introduce a trophy for this event.  A suitable piece of silver was resurrected from the archives:

The Ellesmere Cup was named after the region in Middle England where the family of Langer Owen (Captain of the club 1911-1912) resided and was presented by him in 1911 for 18 holes medal play. The Ellesmere Cup has been languishing in the cellar for a number of years.  A small replica sits in the memorabilia cabinet presented to H.J. Fraser in 1933.  No record can be found of the actual winners or for how long the trophy was contested. It is interesting to note that the Owen Cup we play for was presented in 1906 by Mrs Langer Owen who was then President of the NSWLGU.
